Traveling is the perfect way to spend a vacation with your family or a special occasion with a loved one. Whether you are planning an exciting family trip, a romantic getaway, or spontaneous adventuring partying from city to city, you will want to make sure everything is perfect. Even if you will be going on a “spur-of-the-moment” kind of trip, a certain amount of planning is still necessary, especially if you are on a budget. Some of you are going to want to plan every minute of your stay, while others will book your flight and leave everything else up to chance. Either way, you will want to narrow down where you want to go.
Have you wanted to spend a few weeks snowboarding down beautiful peaks while spending your evenings in a cozy inn? Would you rather lie out on a white sand beach sipping a cocktail before you retire to a fine dining restaurant in the evening? Or perhaps you are the type to spend your nights going to clubs and experiencing all the nightlife a city has to offer while you spend days sightseeing? Whatever your fancy, you will have many countries and cities to choose from.
If you are having trouble narrowing down your options, you might want to start thinking of some practical aspects of travel to help you. For example, what is your budget? Air travel can easily be on of the most expensive portions of your trip, but a short trip will obviously be less expensive. If you are willing to spend your vacation at a local hot spot rather than half way around the world, then you stand to save a considerable amount of money that you can allocate elsewhere in your budget. Language may also be a factor to keep in mind as you select travel destinations. Are you eager to practice some of that Spanish or French you learned in college? If not, perhaps that gives you even more reason to stay in the country. In that case, you won’t have to worry about other troublesome travel details such as passports or changing your money.
Still can’t figure out where to go? Try going down to your local library or bookstore and browsing their travel guides for vacation ideas. These tomes are treasure troves of information for your travel plans. Many of these guides also give “insider’s” tips on great restaurants, lodging, and sights to see that you would not have been privy to ordinarily.
Once you pick a destination or two (or more) for your trip you can really begin planning out your day-to-day activities and your all-important budget. There’s no sense spending all your money your first day abroad or, even worse, just on the travel arrangements to get there. Traveling can get expensive, especially once you begin adding everything together. Your most costly travel expenses will likely be transportation costs, lodging, and food.
You can start planning your trip on your own by taking note of the sites you’ll want to see and the hot spots you’ll want to visit, but beyond that you will probably want to seek the advice of an online travel agent or an online travel package site to get you the best deals. Sure, you can coordinate everything on your own, but a reliable travel agent has the resources and connections to maximize your money and find you the best vacation deals.
Life is short. So how about resolving to follow some of those travel dreams in 2006? The good news is that the great escape does not require gargantuan spending. Can't afford to lease a private island villa? Book an oceanfront apartment at a fraction of the cost. Is an African safari too haute for your herd? Get a thriftier taste of wild Africa on American turf. Want to de-stress at a spa without the distress of a stratospheric tab? Calm yourself with an affordable alternative that is (almost) as enticing. So let the cash flow with a vacation that's out of this world, book a more down-to-earth journey or nab a bedrock bargain that won't feel like you're making do. What's your dream vacation? And what's your budget?
